Preface
Annual Review of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
The positive feedback that we have received suggests that Volumes 1 and 2 have provided a good start for the Annual Review of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. We hope that Volume 3 will contribute to what is now a budding tradition of providing useful information to chemical engineers and related scientists.
I have been asked whether the Annual Review of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is guided by a particular vision concerning the future of chemical engineering. Strictly speaking, the answer is no. Our vision is wide open; we do not profess to know the future direction of chemical engineering. Our goal is to encourage a sense of adventure and innovation by presenting a wide variety of topics to promote curiosity and imagination. We hope that readers will not confine their reading to articles that are of immediate concern to their present area of research but instead will browse in a variety of articles to widen their intellectual horizons, consistent with one my favorite proverbs: "Felix qui potuit rerum cognoscere causas."*
Once again, I want to thank all authors for their fine contributions to Volume 3 and all members of the Editorial Board for their consistent and cheerful efforts. Finally, it is always a pleasure to express my appreciation and gratitude, as well as those of the Editorial Board, to Sam Gubins for his valuable guidance and to Linley Hall for her essential and devoted service to bring Volume 3 to publication.
